Fitletic Ultimate Race Belt

By Mark Keller · On July 4, 2014

Designed with long-distance running in mind, Fitletic’s Ultimate Race Belt is a running belt that will see you through marathons if the occasion arises.

When you’re in it for the long haul, not bouncing is a criteria that becomes increasingly important. A short jog with a jiggling belt isn’t that bad, but the longer is bounces the greater the discomfort. The wide, low-profile design of this belt, together with Dura-Comfort technology, keeps such unpleasantness at bay. The phrase “you won’t even know it’s there” is almost a cliché in the running belt world, but the Ultimate comes very close to proving the tired phrase correct.

The central pocket is made of neoprene, a water-resistant material that will keep your accessories dry no matter how sweaty you get. Though the pocket is on the smaller side of the spectrum, it can effortlessly store smartphones such as the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4, as well as identification, cash and a key or two in the secondary interior pouch.

But storage isn’t restricted to this one receptacle. Many runners use energy gels on longer jaunts to keep the ol’ legs going, and a running belt is a good way to take them with you. The main pocket can hold at least five of them, but even if you’re bringing your phone along there’s still recourse for your energy supplies, thanks to the exterior loops. Six elastic loops, three on each side, flank the primary pocket, designed specifically for gel transport. Whether you wear the pocket in front or in back, your gels will rest gently on your hips, awaiting the moment of consumption.

Still other features conspire together to put the ultimate in, well, Ultimate. The waistbelt, made of ultra-soft material for maximum comfort, can be adjusted on either side, allowing you to maintain a balanced load no matter what your circumference. Reflective highlights provide high visibility for runs in low-light conditions. And then there’s the race bib toggles. If you run competitively, you’re certainly familiar with the need to wear your runner’s number in a visible place. Without a belt possessing this useful feature, this may have to be affixed with easily-pricking pins, but the Ultimate Race Belt’s built-in toggles dispense with all such discomfort. Simply clip your race bib on just beneath the pouch, and away you go!

And while the belt only comes in black, there’s a surprising amount of customizability in the zipper department. There’s seven vibrant colors to pick from, black to match the rest of the black, or black with flanking strips of grey on the pocket for a bit of stylish originality.

The belt can be purchased at several real-world retailers, from the company, and from numerous online stores.
