Sometimes you just need an extremely simple running belt. Whether you generally carry only a couple items with you on the run, have a very limited budget or the combination of the two, the Lycra Mini Sport Belt is a convenient option.
Its primary draw is the minimalism, and there’s certainly much to be said about that. The belt consists of nothing but a single, tiny pocket affixed to the simplest of waist straps, and what it lacks in high-tech design it makes up for with extreme compactness. The pouch is, as its name suggests, constructed from lycra, a blend of polyamide and spandex that is extremely stretchy. Thus, despite its narrow dimensions—just 5½ by 3 inches— the Lycra Mini Sport can expand to accommodate quite a bit more than you’d originally think. Because the zipper is centrally positioned across the pocket’s equator, however, and zippers really don’t stretch, there are still inescapable limits.
It’s ideal if you want to bring your smartphone with you but nothing else, because that’s exactly the size it’s made for. The iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 both fit quite nicely, and depending on the case you use, you might even be able to leave it sheathed. Otterback aficionados are out of luck, since the bulky design of that line of cases exceeds the outer bounds of the lycra’s give, but Incipio or Boostcase users will find that, with only a little difficulty, you can get the entire thing inside.
An inner pocket within the main pocket is a great place to stick your ID, debit card or a little cash, and as long as your bankroll isn’t too large, the financial side of things can coexist peacefully with your smartphone. Something worth noting is that, other qualities aside, lycra isn’t waterproof, so if sweating through is a concern, you may want to wear the Mini with the pocket in front. The waistbelt portion is fully adjustable on both sides for the ideal fit, and a handy clasp holds it all together.
Nobody does color customization quite like Fitletic, and the Lycra Mini comes in a plethora of options. If subtlety’s your game, try the black pocket with a colored zipper in one of seven hues (or black, but subtle and blasé are two different things). If you prefer a more bold approach, the black zipper can be combined with eye-popping pocket colors, such as pink, yellow, red, or the more-subdued navy.
The belt can be purchased at several real-world retailers, from the company, and from numerous online stores.
