Variously described as a running pack, runner’s belt or waistbelt, the AirFlow Lite is one of Amphipod’s highest-rated products. Its minimalist versatility is renowned—the two long pouches are capable of holding just about anything a runner needs, and the lightweight, bounce-free construction makes it ideal for intense training or marathon use.
The first half of the name comes from the patented “AirFlow” technology employed in the lining’s construction. The specialized mesh wicks away sweat while running, preventing the buildup of moisture and eliminating the chafing that can result from having an inferior-quality pouch resting against your lower back during a long run. This material means that the inner of the two pockets is highly water-resistant and decidedly weatherproof (making it the best place for any electronics you’re carrying) while the outer one is not (keep gels/keys/ID here).
The second half of the name is due to its extremely lightweight design. The AirFlow Lite has fairly sizable dimensions, with a 8″-wide pouch that’s 3½” tall, which is why its classification as a running belt is open to debate. But it’s certainly no fanny-pack. When empty, the AirFlow Lite is almost unnoticeable, and won’t bounce no matter how full you stuff it. And you can fit a lot in there—its slim profile belies the considerable carrying capacity.
Even the waist strap is made of breathable material, and is capable of adjusting to almost any size. The polyester/nylon blend is somewhat stretchy, providing a firm fit that doesn’t squeeze you, which contributes to its no-bounce fame.
And while most running belts only offer you variations in color, the AirFlow Lite is more about fun patterns. The options are limited, but fabulous—there’s the standard solid-black look, providing a minimalist aesthetic to match the physical design; the subtle pink floral design, in simple but high-quality embroidery; and the eye-catching orange design, featuring the same pattern as the pink but in a color that simply pops off the black background.
All in all, the Amphipod AirFlow Lite is a great choice for runners who want to carry everything they’ll need without it weighing them down or causing additional discomfort on a grueling run.
The belt can be purchased at several real-world retailers, from the company, and from numerous online stores.
